A Husk of Corn
Summary:Claire comes to Mineral Town, not because she thought farming would be fun-- but to get away from her crazed ex-boyfriend, Justin. Throw in a bi-polar Gray, outgoing cousin Kai, and a bookworm Mary and she has friends the best friends any girl can have.

Read the entirety here.
***

[Day One- Monday]

The bells had rung at the local coffee shop, announcing to the bartenders that a customer had arrived. The visitor was an eight-teen old man; he took off his USHI cap, and brown uniform jacket. He then looked around and motioned the waiter to come and serve him.

Once he seated was had ordered coffee, and a bagel. He was in town to pick up some supplies for his grandfather. He sighed, as he poured the liquid hot coffee into his mouth as he read the morning paper, unaware of the woman who came into the shop, a few minutes after his coffee was serve.

***

She was dressed in khaki pants and a white dressed shirt. Her blond hair was in a low ponytail. She had taken off her blue overcoat, gloves and hung them by the shops door. She then looked around realizing there was at least one new person in her favorite café.

She waved at the barkeep as she walked up to order her usual bagel and coffee. She asked about the new guy, but the barkeep shrugged and said something about him being new. The blond nodded and looked down to her wrist, and realized she was running late. She thanked Carl (the barkeep) and was on her way to work.

[Day Two- Tuesday]

The blond returned the next day. She knew she would, she discarded her overcoat and gloves like the day before and sat at the bar, with the barkeep, Carl. Carl was a balding blond man. His eyes were brown and his hair was a dull blond. The two chatted, among themselves, before the door opened. Upon, opening the door had reveled the orange-red man who was in the shop the day before.

The blond smiled and stood up. She then waved good-bye to Carl. She had met her goal for today: See the man’s facial features. Then she left.

***
Carl didn’t say a word until she left, and then walked towards the young man in question. He sighed, as he got closer, and the asked the man if he was ready to order. The young man said he was and ordered the same things as yesterday.

Carl nodded and merely walked away. He was getting ready for what he knew was going to be a long day. Like yesterday, he knew; the blond would be back at five to grill him about the young man.

***

He had entered the establishment and his eyes had fallen on her. Her back was turned to him, and he all ready wondered who she was. But, he didn’t want to interrupt her when she was talking to the bartender. Yet, he noticed that when he sat down she was all ready halfway to the door.

He had missed his turn.

And, that’s when he noticed the bartender coming over to him. He, like the day before; had decided to order the same thing. It was always better safe than sorry. Or at least that’s what he thought. But, he wanted to get to know the blond more, but then there was always tomorrow.

[Day Three- Wednesday]

Carl sighed, as he begun washing the glasses that he left unwashed the night before. The blond hadn’t come till late the night before. She had told him she was held up at work, but didn’t disclose the real reason with him. He sighed, when he heard the door opened. He bet it was either the boy or the girl.

He looked out of the kitchen door’s window. It was neither. It was just another customer. He blinked, and went to take the order of the unnamed customer, and then went back to the kitchen to make the patron’s order.

***

They had entered at the same time; the red-orange haired man had opened the door for her, and she thanked him. She knew she was ten minutes behind schedule, but she really wanted to meet this individual. She had led him to a booth, and called Carl to take their orders.

***

Carl was shocked to see them, together and talking. He knew the blond had trouble with her past boyfriends—and they always did ended up dumping her. He was hoping this one wasn’t going to do anything harsh, or be the same as the other guys.

***

He was enjoying their morning talk that is until she has to go. He watched her, leave and smiled. She was like an angel sent down from heaven. But, he shook his head, and he to left the café.

[Day Four- Thursday]

She ran inside that morning, tears falling down. She immediately saw Carl and told him what had happened last night. It seemed one of her old boyfriends had shown up out of the blue yesterday, and asked her for forgiveness, but she wasn’t willing to give it to him. She had told him that she had canceled work today (called in sick).

She knew that he would be there, and demanding forgiveness and them to get back together. She didn’t want it. She was too afraid. And, Carl had customers that needed him. Yet, he saw the young man come in and motion him to his office, and sat the blond down.

He told him that he needed him to watch her for a few hours, and he agreed.

***

Unaware, what he was supposed to do, he took off his jacket and hat and tossed it onto the couch. The next thing he did was picked up the sobbing girl and sat her down on the same couch and began to softly talk to her.

“You all right?”

All right, perhaps that was the dumbest question to ask, but it got her to stop; her bright blue eyes laid on his gray ones.

“I-I’m…” she looked down to her hands. “I am not.” She said weakly.

She then went into her story on how her now ex boyfriend was obsessed with her. He had landed in jail after multiple warnings from her family, friends, and police. It had gotten so bad that she filed for a restraining order. He had never paid any much attention to it, so he landed in jail.

He whistled loudly, and sighed.

She then looked up at him. “Thank you though. I never thought I met someone as nice as you.”

***

She had fallen asleep a while ago, and he covered her with his jacket. He was pacing in the room wondering what he should do. On one hand, he wanted to help her. On the other, he knew he would have to leave the city tomorrow. He didn’t know what to do, so he sat down and put his head in his hands.

“Is she all right?” Carl asked moments later.

“I think so,” he said without even moving.

“Are you?” Carl asked.

“I—I’m fine.” He lied.

Carl knew he was lying, but didn’t say a thing since someone had rung the bell on the counter. Then was a deep masculine voice, which Carl turned around to. Then, started to walk back outside, but then stopped.

“Whatever happens don’t let her out of your sight.”

He starred at Carl, as Carl walked outside, and locked the door. Well, now that solves my problem… for now. He thought.

[Day Five- Friday]

She had run into the café crying. It wasn’t bad as yesterday where she and the guy she barely knew stayed in a room for four hours—because Justin decided to show up and decided to beat up Carl. Carl had a cast and sling around his left arm. He waved at her, as she sat down.

“I-I *sob* l-lost *sob* m-my job *sob*.”

She laid her head on the cold counter. She continued to cry. This was a bad week for her; she met a guy—granted she never did ask for his name. She had a confrontation with her ex-boyfriend, Justin, and the said guy tried to kill the barkeep.

“I need to get away from here,” she muttered to herself, as she looked up at Carl. She then looked around. Where was he? The man had orange-reddish hair, and gray eyes. Carl sadly smiled and laid the guy’s hat on the counter in front of her. On the hate was one word:

UMA.

She laughed to herself and put the hat on. Then, she walked outside waving good-bye to Carl and bought a paper.

***
He awoke late this morning and ran around his hotel room cussing. He finally gave up a half an hour before checkout. He ran back to the café, to see if he left it there. But, as he was about to opened thedoor, that blond opened the door.

She was sniffling, but he couldn’t help but notice the hat on her head. His hat. He sighed, and put his hands in his pockets. He then walked towards the dock.

“Hey Gray!” Zack called.

Gray looked up. “Hey.”

Zack was a middle-aged man. He had a brown hair and eyes, and he was smoking a cigarette. Zack scratched his head, “Where’s your hat?”

But, Gray could only smile. He wanted to keep the blond a secret.

[Day Six- Saturday]

She arrived in the new town late at night. She sighed as she shifted her new hat. She had called the mayor yesterday. She sighed, as she walked down the street to the inn. She didn’t know where her new home was yet. And, the residents were starring, and laughing at her. To make matters worse—there were talking about the hat!

She opened the door, and a red-haired girl dropped the dishes. She then stared at the blond and then screamed.

“Dad! It’s her! The new farmer!”

The blond blinked. She then dropped her bags, as the redhead put her hands on her hips. She starred at the blond.

“That hat looks familiar,” she said.

And, that’s when the door slam.

***

He grumbled as he came in. Both girls turned to him, and he looked up—and froze.

“My hat!” he cried and tore it off the blond.

“You!” she had cried at the same time.

They starred at each other until he turned away. “I knew someone was moving in, but I never thought it would be you.” He said rather coldly.

The blond blinked. Memories of two days prior filled her mind. She gulped as she looked down. The redhead gasped.

“GRAY!”

But, he didn’t pay attention and walked upstairs.

[Day Seven- Sunday]

She sat frozen on her bed. Tears fell from her eyes, she had been crying, and talking to Carl. She shouldn’t have come here. She shouldn’t have. Even if it was to away from Justin, Ok so it was mostly to get away from him. She laughed bitterly, as she got up and got ready for the day.

A few minutes later someone had knocked the door.

***

The hot sun was making her a bit hot in her sweater. She was hoeing the ground, to plant this season’s seeds. She had gone and met the people in town, but didn’t stop by the Blacksmith Shoppe. She had all ready known that worked there, and she didn’t want a repeat of last night.

And, yet the said man had walked into her farm, followed by a brown beagle.

***

“Claire, right?” he asked.

She leaned on her hoe and watched him.

“Gray. What do you want?’ she said rather coldly.

He sighed. He knew last night was out of line, even for him—but his grandfather had been on his case yesterday.

“Look, about yesterday…”

“Save it,” Claire had said and starred at the pup.

He rolled his eyes. “Claire this is Elroy. I want you to have him.”

She looked up at him. “This isn’t—“

“No.”

She then picked up the puppy and hugged him. Gray took it as his cue to leave.

“Gray,” she said stopping him. Thanks.”

He then tilted his hat and smiled.

Happy New Year... of problems [MFoMT]

[Spring 1, Year 4] Mayor Thomas stopped by today. I heard him and Cliff talking. I haven't been feeling well for some time now. It's mostly due to morning sickness. Cliff and I discussed something important last night. He doesn't want me working on the animals or the the crops. But, that's our incoming income for the next coming year! What am I suppose to do now? Stay in bed? That's psychically impossible.

At least I have letters to entertain me.

I wonder if Cliff saw this. It's a card from Gray and it's tear-stained. "Happy New Year! Hope you have a good year." -Gray

Gray... I'm still in love with thee..

-Andy

[Spring 2, Year 4] I've been supervising Cliff around the farm, he has to do my chores before he heads off to the Winery. Plus, we also need to go into town today to pick up turnip, cucumber and potato seeds. He didn't even let me plant them, or water them.

"The baby is getting bigger. How's your back? If you need help, you tell me, okay? Come on take a break." he urges.

-Andy

[Spring 4, Year 4] I fainted on the way from Bailey's today. I guess I should slow down or something. I would take Cliff's offer, but I'm so stubborn. I woke up in the blacksmith's shoppe in front of Gray and his grandfather. Gray immediately left after he knew I was okay. But, I saw the worry etched in his eyes. I asked Saibara what's the matter and he smiled sadly.

"He still cares."

-Andy

[Spring 7- 15,Year 4] I haven't told Cliff anything of me fainting and ending up in the Blacksmith's shoppe. I wonder if anyone knows. Mary stopped by Spring 8th and told me about her problem. She's in love with Kai. I had to promise her not to tell Gray. I haven't yet. On the ninth, Manna took me to see Dr. Trent. I'm now on bed rest until the baby comes- which means Cliff will be here 24/7, since Duke had let Cliff take vacation. That's what I just need. Cliff told me he sold a chicken on the 11th. I don't know which one though. Manna been coming over nonstop and babies me way to much. On the fifteenth of Spring she came along with Duke and started cooking in our kitchen. It's annoys me actually...

Fanfiction: Cuff Links

Cuff links

By: Luna Ace

Game: More Friends of Mineral Town

Summary: It's Gray's birthday, and Claire has something special for him.

“Thanks Cliff. Thanks Zack.”

It was a blustery Winter's night. And, she was getting ready for the biggest day of all-- his birthday. She had to plan everything right. Everything had to be prefect. She wander the streets of Mineral Town-- thinking about him and about that night. Everyone in town knew she was head over heels with him. But, for some reason he didn't see it. Or at least that what she thought.

...

On the other side of town in the old black smith shoppe a young man with orange-blond hair was pacing. He was thinking about her. About how sweet and independent she was. He would always try to help her with her farm, but she always turned him down. To him, she really was tough.

And, that was one of the things he loved about her.

“Gray, what are you still doing here?” an old man asked. The old man's hair was graying. But, he was still strong.

But he didn't speak. His mind was wrapped around thoughts of her. He hadn't heard his grandfather and walked out of the blacksmith building. Yet, he knew before he would be willing to give all of his heart to her he would need to confront her-- about Cliff and Ann.

He quietly walked over to Doug's Inn. He didn't liked the Winterly Season. Just like he didn't like the Summer Season-- it was too warm. And, he hated his black smith's uniform. He was way to cold for his own liking. Way to cold for for the townsfolk.

But, her. She was the one who had melted his cold hearted heart. He knew another to try, but she wasn't even close. And, the other had try to hard. He realized he was now at the front door of the inn. And, he entered.

She was standing there, back turned to him; in a a beautiful pink dress. She had a small pouch around her waist, and her hair was done in pigtails. He felt his heart stop, his breathe slowed. His cold blue eyes starring into her warm navy orbs. Maybe it was this moment in time, but he felt safe around her.

She was hugging his best friend, and then turned around. Her smile dropped and started walking quickly towards the front door. She didn't want him to stop her. She didn't want to talk to him—and she knew he saw that. His mind could be going a mile a minute.

“Claire! Wait!” he called to her.

But, she didn't stop. She couldn't. She was on a mission, and she couldn't tell him what she was up to. It would ruin everything. But, she could see the hurt in his eyes. He probably came to some conclusion. She sighed, stopped and turned around.

“Yes?” she said politely.

Gray gulped. She was never this sweet. Only once she was this sweet, and it meant it she was up to something. What? He didn't know. But he knew that he needed to find out. He was about to say something until his brunette hair friend walked over.

“Hey Gray can I talk to you?” he asked.

And, with that she slipped away from him. That was close. He can't find out what I have planned for his birthday. Sorry Gray. I love you, but I can't let you ruin your own surprise. She thought as she skipped towards the blacksmith's shoppe.

She had to clear Gray's work schedule tomorrow. And, tomorrow wasn't a Thursday. It was a Saturday. She knocked the door for a minute. She knew it was late-- after eight. She wondered if Gray's grandfather was still awake. She knew she had told him her plan. She just didn't know if Saibara would allow Gray to take the day off.

Then, the door opened.

“Good Evening Claire.”

“Good evening.”

Claire twisted he hands together. Her mind was blanked, and she couldn't remember what she wanted to asked. Saibara started to close the door--

“Wait! Sorry Saibara. I sort of forgot. But, can you give Gray the day off tomorrow. It's his birthday after all. And, I have something planned...” she blushed as she told Saibara her request.

He touched his chin, and scratched it. “Your going to ask him. Aren't you?” he asked.

She smiled as she dug into her tan pouch. A few seconds later she pulled out a tan box and opened the box. Inside were two identical blue feathered cuff links. Saibara took them both out and examined them. He, himself-- with Claire's help had manufactured them. Then, Claire had Zack send it to the city to get it personalized.

Gray, I will always love you. -Claire

“It's finally finished. And, just in time too.” she said.

It was then he finally revealed his presence. His grandfather quickly put the cuff links into the box, she then quickly shoved it into her pouch and zipped it up. She then looked at him, and he was leaning. She couldn't find an answerer. She knew she was caught. But, Saibara found his voice.

“We were just talking about Claire's mother. What was in the box was something of Claire's that she wanted to restore. Sorry Claire. I can't do that.”

Claire blinked. “I-It's o-okay.”

She faked a tear, and then started to run from him. Gray watched her run the wrong way-- and he was going to follow her. She was acting odd to him-- and he bet that what was in the box wasn't from her mom. He sighed as he took off.

“Claire?” he called as he entered the beach.

Clair was sitting near the shore watching the waves come in and out. She was alone. And, he wondered why. He took off his shoes, socks and cap. He placed his shoes and socks by her sandals. And, he place his cap on her head.

“H-Hi G-Gray.” she shivered.

“Hey you all right? It's cold out here.”

“Yea...”

She shivered again. He sighed as he took off his extra large shirt uniform. He then slid it on her, and held her close. They sat like that for a few moments. She snuggled close to him. She loved this man with all her heart. She knew it was now or never.

“Claire... why have you been distant with me?” he asked.

She was. She had been spending more time at the farm and with the townsfolk. She had kept her distance from him because she begun to think she would let it all slip out.

“I'm sorry. I can't tell you Gray.”

“Why?”

“I just... There are things I need to keep secret.” she whispered, shot up and ran from him-- holding his uniform shirt close as if it was the only thing that would keep her sane. She couldn't tell him. Not yet anyway. Soon, though.

Soon.

...

To say that there are birds that woke her up this morning was a misunderstanding. To say that the kids of the town-- more like teenagers-- woke her up was an understatement. Everything needed to be perfect... in her mind. And, Rick, Karen, Ann and Cliff were there to help.

“You guys stay out of my kitchen!” Claire cried as she saw Karen and Rick walk towards it.

Everyone in town knew Karen was a horrible cook. And, Claire wasn't in the mood to waste supplies. She was a perfectionist. And, it was hard not to be one. Her mother was one and her grand mother was one.

“Then what do you want me to do? Karen asked.

Claire then shoved party supplies into Rick's arm's. He was tall-- about 6'2” with long blond hair and blue eyes. Karen on the other hand was about 6'. She had green eyes and the ever so changing brunette hair.

“Please fix the barn up. Ann, Cliff stay.”

Cliff was Gray's best friend. He was also brunette with soft brown eyes. Ann, on the other hand was a redhead with sky blue eyes. A moment later the three were alone. Ann begun to giggle.

“Scared Claire?”

Claire sighed and shook her head 'no.'

“We'll all die tonight if we sample Karen's cooking.”

Cliff and Ann cracked a smile and then went straight to work.

...

Four hours later the barn was finished, the animals were feed. Claire's helpers retired to go change for the shin dig-- while Claire got ready herself. She was a bit nervous. She didn't want anything to go wrong tonight and she something will. She felt it in her gut.

She sighed as she opened the door, and a man in a tan tuxedo standing on the other side of her door.

“Hey.”

“Hi! Your just in time Cliff! Where's Ann?” Claire asked, then leaned to one side to try to locate Ann.

Cliff chuckled. “She'll get here. Doug made a cake for the occasion.”

She nodded. Then, closed the door. Her surprise for Gray was hidden in her coat pocket. She was wearing a dazzling navy blue dress and she braided her hair. They entered the barn to find the feed boxes and hay over in a corner-- the same corner Rick and Karen boxed the cows and sheep in.

“You'll do fine.” Cliff murmured.

She nodded. This party was just icing on the cake. The real surprise for her Gray would come later when all the guest left.

One bye one the guest arrived. Ann came dressed in a red dazzling short sleeve dress. The redhead didn't have her hair braided this time it was down. Rick and Karen came next. Rick was dressed in a green suit while Karen dressed in long brown pants and a button shirt.

Claire shook her head. There was no way Karen would dress in a dress and she would have to accept that. But, that made her wonder what about Karen's wedding day? Would Karen dress in a dress then? After Karen was Popuri, Rick's little sister. She had red eyes and pink fluffy hair. Her dress was violet, an extravagant color.

The Doctor, whose real name was Trent; came with Ellen. The Doctor had discarded his headpiece for the night (and his lab coat). He was wearing black slacks, baby blue shirt and tie. He was not that tall making his height about 5'6”. And, his hair and eyes were black. Ellen, on the other hand was about 5'4”. She had short brunette hair and eyes. She wore a white gown.

And, then they arrived.

Mary and Gray together.

She stopped breathing as she studied them-- Mary (the town's librarian) had long silky black hair and dark violet eyes. Her glasses were discarded tonight. She wore a pale peach dress-- not that Claire would care. But, Gray. Gray looked stunning in his navy blue tuxedo. It matched her dress! She began to finger the box in her coat pocket wondering if it was the right thing to do. If marrying him would keep him away from her.

Claire starred at Mary coldly. She didn't know what the relationship Gray had with Mary. Although, he had convinced her she was just a friend, and nothing more. But, then she remembered last night. The hug between her and Cliff. It had meant nothing-- it was just a thanks. Since Cliff had helped her with everything to throw this party.

Maybe Gray thought differently.

...

Why did I even bother? I mean, he came with her. And, I'm suppose to act happily? I did this all for him. Not her! I wished now I didn't spent all this money on him.

She was curled up on a ball near Mother Hill. The box was opened next to her-- the blue feathered cuff links inside waiting for their owner. But, he wouldn't come. She knew that. All because of that simple hug everything was ruined. She knew something like this would happen! It was just a matter of time.

She then fell back onto the wet snow and looked up at the stars. She knew it wasn't Starry Night. But, somehow it felt like it. All her old securities came rushing back to her, and she silently cried to herself. There was pain, angst, and most of all heart break.

Was it all worth it? Worth every cent of it?

“Claire?” a voice called out to her.

She looked over to him, and hid made a move for the box. But, she wasn't fast enough. He had grabbed it, and looked it it. She shut her eyes afterwards, waiting for him to speak. She had come here to be alone and didn't want anyone here. Yet, here he was.

“These are beautiful,” he breathed.

She didn't say a word. In fact she kept her eyes closed and listened to him. Of course they were beautiful. They were about to become his-- like her heart had. She then opened her eyes, took the box, and frowned.

“Claire what's wrong?” he asked.

“Gray I-- I will always love you.” she whispered, then stood up. Tomorrow was a big day she would have to clean up the barn and then mend her heart. But, he grabbed her arm. Two big strong arms wrapped around her body.

“I won't hurt you. You know that.” he whispered.

“But, you-”

“We didn't come together. We met at the entrance to the barn. Claire, I love you.”

“I know I'm sorry. I-- Marry me.”

His arms fell toward the ground. Movement in his body ceased. She turned around and starred at him. She didn't want to ask him like this, but it was over and done with now the ball was in his court. He would have to answer.

“Claire...” he tried forming words in his mind, but he felt speechless. This was the last thing he was expecting-- especially on his birthday. He knew she was expecting an answer soon. He nodded. She then squealed and jumped into his arm, and knocked them over onto the ground. She then handed the box to him.

“These are mine?” he asked, smiling.

“Yes. Your grandfather helped me with them. So did Cliff, and Zack.”

“So, that's why you were hugging Cliff..” he said rather coldly.

She nodded, and dismissed how he had said it. She then continued on. “They're cuff links-- made to be used at your wedding.”

“And, if I said no?”

“I don't know. Would you?”

He smiled as he pulled himself up in a sitting position. It was kind of hard since Claire made herself comfortable in his own lap. He then kissed her on the cheek.

“Thank you Claire. I would be honored to become your husband.”

End.

Fanfiction: Fireworks

Fireworks

By: Luna Ace

Game: Island of Happiness

Summary: Vaults is wandering around at night during the Fireworks Festival. He then spots Chelsea alone in the dark, leaning over the fence of her Happiness Farm. Vaults/Chelsea

He blinked. Why on Earth was he still doing here on this island? He should be halfway to his next destination. Not here... stranded. Well, technically he wasn't stranded. His boat was still in the harbor, awaiting his arrival. The St. Claire he had called it. He named after his mother who died when he was only two.

He had left the god forsaken beach a long time ago-- when everyone sat together in pairs watching the fireworks display. The were murmuring amongst themselves in pure happiness. He hated that word. He wished it was a living thing for him to stab something at it. He wanted to--

He was nearing that new farmer's house. What was her name? Karen? No. That was the name of his aunt who came to the Island every week. He searched for her name in his memory banks only to wander upon a brunette girl singing softly. He gazed upon her, as if in a trance.

She was leaning against the fence. She was wearing a pair of jean shorts, and a yellow tank top. Her normal vest was discarded for the night. She hadn't notice him yet as her eyes were closed and he was standing in front of her.

He on the other hand was wearing something different then what he normally wear. His lovable cousin had hidden his suitcase and keys. She was afraid that he would leave. Or he wouldn't take the promise very seriously. But, then again she was always talking about how lonely the brunette was on certain occasions. She would never go out and celebrate any holidays, she just kept to herself. And, she was making a big deal out of it. Even though he didn't care.

Folding his arms slightly and hardening his face, he starred at the lone girl.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

The sapphire-eyed girl's eyes snapped opened and she frowned. He was starring at her waiting for an answer.

“Why does it matter? I'm not in your way now am I?” she asked hotly.

He rolled his eyes and stepped closer to her. “No. But, shouldn't you be out on the beach?” he asked.

She then mimic his movement and laughed sadistically. “Have you seen everyone? There all lovey dovey! It sickens me...” her voice fell silent as she remained thoughtful, and then asked “What about you?”

“Pfft. No one could love a me. My heart is cold as ice.”

She raised an eyebrow, and giggled.

“Hm... cold as ice you say?”

Her sapphire eyes sparkled mischievously as she raised a hand to her chin and pretended to think.

“Ceffiena?” she asked softly.

Ceffiena was pretty much of a shy girl that reminded Vaults of one of his aunts. All he wanted to do was protect her, but other than that he didn't really have any feelings for her. If she was going to play the 'I've-seen-you-with-her' he'd play the same game with her.

“What about Mark?” he asked harshly and she fell silent. Tears sting in her sapphire eyes and she looked down to the ground. She sighed heavily. “M-mark came out of the c-closest.”

Vaults was surprise as they both fell silent. He then walked over towards the fence and sat down. He felt sorry for the girl and wondered how long since then. Looking up at the night sky he realized for the first time in awhile he was at peace with himself. How could one girl--

“Hey! Look they're starting,” she exclaimed.

He could hear the cheerfulness in her voice, and he had to smile at that. There were all different color of fire work. Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green to name a few. And, they had a few animals as well. He hadn't notice the brunette, who sat down beside him.

...

As the night went on she realized how content she felt. Mark didn't matter anymore. She placed her hand on Vault's unknowingly as she watched the fireworks become farm animals. She could hear people yelling from far away. Mostly the two children that came to live on the island.

Charlie, was a young boy and was eight years old. He had silky raven hair and dark gray eyes. He was mostly outgoing and loved to help in his father's shoppe. Elisa, on the other hand; was a shy blond with light gray eyes. She was shy yet optimistic. The two children were screaming how the animals reminded them of the ones in Happiness Ranch.

It then occurred to her that this wasn't a normal day for Vaults to be here. She turned to him and poked him in the elbow. He turned to her, frowning. She smiled brightly at him.

“Shouldn't you be... um, not on this Island?” she asked innocently.

He smirked and wondered if he should tell her what his cousin did. He decided against it.

“Eh... I decided to stay. Got a problem with that?”

She rolled her eyes and breathed deeply. She knew he was lying. His nostrils flared up when he lied. That was something Julia had told her. But, she always wonder why Julia always told her his secrets? Was it because--

“Your lying.” she spat, folding her arms deciding what to do with him.

He starred and blinked at her-- the distant sound of fire crackers going off in their ears.

“And, you know this-?”

“Julia told me.” she said rather firmly.

Julia. Oh, he was going to kill her for this. Julia was a five foot four inch woman who had blond hair and cerulean eyes. She was pretty optimistic when she could be, and she loved to cook. In fact, she owned her own little restaurant on the island.

He growled at her, clearly upset. But, the brunette tilted her head and giggled at him as she stood up and stole the raven colored cowboy hat he never seemed to part with. He had been wearing jeans and a violet shirt-- one that matches his eyes. And, that stupid neckerchief, she thought.

“Hey! Give that back!” Vaults growled out as she made a grab at his plain white neckerchief.

She got a good, firm, grip at the neckerchief as she threw his hat down to the other side of the fence. She then ignored his screaming about his hat hitting the dirt. But, since it was so dark he hadn't realized the glint in her eyes as she forcefully pulled his head close to hers. He froze once he felt her breathing close to his own lips.

Truth be told she loved this man and was jealous at Ceffiena for taking all his attention away from her. She had tried to move on with Mark in the past year and found out two seasons ago they would never be more then friends. She been heart broken ever since...

...

“Chelsea darling! What can I do you for?” the blond chirp playfully when the brunette came in.

Chelsea scanned the room, hoping to find him, and she did. He was with her. She sighed and sat down at the counter as the blond realized who the brunette had been looking for.

“He's always with her sugar,” the blond said.

“I know. Sometimes I wish I could redo that day all over again...” Chelsea said sadly. Maybe then he would have a better opinion of me, she thought.

...

She had bump into him literally on the beach of the island. She had fallen backwards and saw a pair of dark pair of pants. Oh great. I've bump into someone. Again. She thought.

She had been running into lots of people that day. And, to make matters worse she had ran into people she had never knew. There was a boat that came to the island. That much she knew. A hand was held out to her and the person she bumped into was loosing his patience.

“Do you want my help or not?” a voice asked , with annoyance.

She looked up and instantly stared at his violet orbs, silky silvery hair and black and brown cowboy attire. It seemed like he had fallen as well. Their was also a neckerchief around his neck, but it seemed like it was becoming untied from behind.

She let him help her up, looking down towards the ground embarrassed. “T-Thanks,” she said shyly.

But, when she she looked back up he was gone. A raven cowboy hat was all that was left of him.

...

She let go of the man entirely, letting him fall backwards-- almost hitting his head. She was beyond shock at what she had almost done. She knew Julia did this to help them move along. Vault's cousin could never let things go their normal course as it seemed.

'You can't complain Chelsea darling! I've all ready done the deed.'

Was this what Julia was talking about? Had she met this? She stranded her only cousin by hiding his belongings in the storage closet of her own restaurant. Shaking her head, she sighed and sat back down.

“I'm sorry,” she muttered looking at her own hands.

Vaults was taken aback. He didn't know why. The villagers were coming their way now. The fireworks display were long over and he'd would have to return on his duty soon. And, yet... the girl sitting In front of him looked so guilty. What had she done wrong?

But, then he heard chattering and he knew he couldn't be caught with her so he began to walk away. But,as he began to he felt an arm grabbed him. He spun around ready to yell at the brunette, yet he couldn't upon looking into her sapphire eyes.

Sighing, he grabbed the girl's arm and dragged her away and into the forest. They didn't stop until they were deep inside the forest. That's when she spoke. And, he realized her voice was as sweet as an angel's.

“Vaults stop! I'm tired. And, they won't find us here.” she hissed tiredly.

He spun around and looked at her with such malice. But, then his his widen. His hat! His damn cowboy hat! He needed to get back to the girls farm. But, he knew he couldn't. Dejectedly he sat down, wondering when this nightmare would end.

Chelsea had sighed in relief. She didn't want to get lost in the forest. Hell, she didn't have any sense of direction. And, she knew Vaults wouldn't help her situation. She always got lost here in the forest. Mark would always have to find her and lead her out...

“What were you thinking about?” Vaults suddenly asked quietly.

His tone of voice took her by surprise. And, she wasn't sure how to answer. They rarely got along. They usually ended up bickering. And, it usually ended with her chasing him off the island.

“Hm... Mark. The way your cousin kept you here. And..” her lips fell silent.

She didn't think she should tell him that she was thinking of him. Of the time they first met. She smiled sadly. They didn't know each other at the time, and yet Julia had introduced him to Chelsea joyfully. The boy scoff as she told him what she was thinking about. But it somehow bother him when she didn't finish.

“And?” he asked, curiously turning to face her.

She blushed. “I-- I was thinking... about... you.”

She closed her sapphire eyes and waited for a laugh, a snappy comeback. Anything really, but all she got was a endearing question. “M-Me?What about me?”

He blinked. And, said a lot of curse words in his mind. He never stutter! How could one insignificant girl make him stutter?

“We first met on the beach did we not?” she asked, leaning back on a random tree. “I didn't mean to run into you, and yet I'm glad I did.” she recalled eyes snapping open wearily.

“Well, you weren't half bad you know,” he said. “In the looks department.”

She laughed. “Thank you,” she whispered as she crawled over to him.

“Your going to get me dirty.” he muttered softly.

She rolled her eyes and launched forward at him, landing his lap. “Eh... You'll have your clothes back tomorrow.” she said with a giggle.

Silence. She looked up at him and realized he dozed off. Smirking to herself she made herself comfortable and dozed off herself.

...

Birds were chirping. Light had shine through the trees and yet the two lovebirds slept peacefully unaware of the morning light. She woke up peacefully and looked around expecting to see her room. But, she didn't. What happened last night? She thought to herself. And, then she looked next to her. A man was sleeping next to her. His silvery hair was tossed side to side. He looked so cute... wait what?!

She shot up and blinked. He was still there. She was still there. Then she remembered what had happened last night. They ran into the forest to hid from the residence of the small island. Sighing, she thought it was best to wake him up.

“Vaults,” she whispered.

There was no answer from his sleeping form.

“Vaults,” she said again shaking his body softly.

Still nothing.

She rolled her sapphire eyes and huffed. This man was a heavy sleeper. Then an idea struck her, and she leaned in and kissed him fully on the lips. Startled, his eyes snapped open and starred at her. Sapphire met violet orbs.

“Your awake!” she cried, happily.

Her arms circled around his body tightly. She seemed oblivious to the fact that he was blushing furiously.

“Why did you kiss me?” he asked confused.

Rolling her eyes she answered, “You wouldn't wake up.”

She thought for a moment as she saw pure hatred in his eyes. She then backed away and sighed sadly. She looked towards the ground and drew something totally random and then said, “You still have high hopes on Ceffiena. Even if you won't admit it. They're there.”

With that she got up and ran.

...

Damn girl, Vaults mentally thought. She had been right thought. He was still in love with the raven-haired, glasses wearing woman. But, the brunette had kissed him. He touched his lips and her kiss still lingered. It had felt... right.

His eyes widen when he realized the truth. He loved her. He needed her. He needed to find her and confess. Once again Julia was right. They had bickered for years, and Julia told him he loved her. No wonder he felt jealous when she hung around Marc or any other guy. Smirking to himself, he got up and started to search for her.

...

“Chelsea!” he called once he had gotten to her farm.

She was there wearing his hat, watering the crops. But, her sapphire eyes had seemed distant. He noticed that when she looked at him. Walking over to the fence she handed his hat back to him wordlessly and turned away. But, he grabbed her shoulder and turned the brunette around.

“Don't turn your back on me,” he hissed lightly.

She starred at him slightly as he leaned over the fence and kissed her softly on the lips.It was short, but sweet. Her eyes had widen when he did it, but they closed when she happily started kissing back. She let his tounge slip into her mouth and started to wrestle back with her own.

Soon they broke apart, smiling at each other.

She hadn't know what he had felt when he kissed her. But, she knew what she had felt. It was simply fireworks.
